Give the Gift of Independence

One of my first dance-related memories is constantly losing my ballet shoes. My mom would be getting us ready to go and I never knew where my shoes were! This went on for a little while, but soon I learned to keep my ballet shoes in one place so I knew were they were when it was time to go to ballet. This was one of my first steps on the way to independence.
The etiquette of dance teaches the importance of being prepared. Being prepared and on time for class is considered a sign of respect to your teacher and fellow students. As students grow they start taking on more of this responsibility – getting their shoes and clothes ready, putting their hair up according to dress code, and making sure they keep all the parts of their costume safe and ready for the show. It is such a joy to see my dancers growing into prepared and independent young people!
